First Day

Read the Lesson 13 Notes

Second Day

Read Romans 8:18

Romans 8:18

[18] For I consider that our present sufferings cannot even be compared to the coming glory that will be revealed to us. (NET)

Question 3

Romans 5:3-5

[3] Not only this, but we also rejoice in sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, [4] and endurance, character, and character, hope. [5] And hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts through the Holy Spirit who was given to us. (NET)

2 Corinthians 4:7-18

[7] But we have this treasure in clay jars, so that the extraordinary power belongs to God and does not come from us. [8] We are experiencing trouble on every side, but are not crushed; we are perplexed, but not driven to despair; [9] we are persecuted, but not abandoned; we are knocked down, but not destroyed, [10] always carrying around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our body. [11] For we who are alive are constantly being handed over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that the life of Jesus may also be made visible in our mortal body. [12] As a result, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. [13] But since we have the same spirit of faith as that shown in what has been written, “I believed; therefore I spoke,” we also believe, therefore we also speak. [14] We do so because we know that the one who raised up Jesus will also raise us up with Jesus and will bring us with you into his presence. [15] For all these things are for your sake, so that the grace that is including more and more people may cause thanksgiving to increase to the glory of God. [16] Therefore we do not despair, but even if our physical body is wearing away, our inner person is being renewed day by day. [17] For our momentary, light suffering is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison [18] because we are not looking at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen. For what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal. (NET)

2 Corinthians 6:4-10

[4] But as God’s servants, we have commended ourselves in every way, with great endurance, in persecutions, in difficulties, in distresses, [5] in beatings, in imprisonments, in riots, in troubles, in sleepless nights, in hunger, [6] by purity, by knowledge, by patience, by benevolence, by the Holy Spirit, by genuine love, [7] by truthful teaching, by the power of God, with weapons of righteousness both for the right hand and for the left, [8] through glory and dishonor, through slander and praise; regarded as impostors, and yet true; [9] as unknown, and yet well-known; as dying and yet—see!—we continue to live; as those who are scourged and yet not executed; [10] as sorrowful, but always rejoicing; as poor, but making many rich; as having nothing, and yet possessing everything. (NET)

2 Corinthians 11:23-28

[23] Are they servants of Christ? (I am talking like I am out of my mind!) I am even more so: with much greater labors, with far more imprisonments, with more severe beatings, facing death many times. [24] Five times I received from the Jews forty lashes less one. [25] Three times I was beaten with a rod. Once I received a stoning. Three times I suffered shipwreck. A night and a day I spent adrift in the open sea. [26] I have been on journeys many times, in dangers from rivers, in dangers from robbers, in dangers from my own countrymen, in dangers from Gentiles, in dangers in the city, in dangers in the wilderness, in dangers at sea, in dangers from false brothers, [27] in hard work and toil, through many sleepless nights, in hunger and thirst, many times without food, in cold and without enough clothing. [28] Apart from other things, there is the daily pressure on me of my anxious concern for all the churches. (NET)

Question 5

Romans 8:17

[17] And if children, then heirs (namely, heirs of God and also fellow heirs with Christ)—if indeed we suffer with him so we may also be glorified with him. (NET)

Third Day

Read Romans 8:19-22

Romans 8:19-22

[19] For the creation eagerly waits for the revelation of the sons of God. [20] For the creation was subjected to futility—not willingly but because of God who subjected it—in hope [21] that the creation itself will also be set free from the bondage of decay into the glorious freedom of God’s children. [22] For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers together until now. (NET)

Question 6

Genesis 3:17-19

[17] But to Adam he said, “Because you obeyed your wife and ate from the tree about which I commanded you, ‘You must not eat from it,’ the ground is cursed because of you; in painful toil you will eat of it all the days of your life.

[18] It will produce thorns and thistles for you, but you will eat the grain of the field.

[19] By the sweat of your brow you will eat food until you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you will return.” (NET)

Question 7

Genesis 1:27-2:3

[1:27] God created humankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them, male and female he created them.

[28] God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply! Fill the earth and subdue it! Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and every creature that moves on the ground.” [29] Then God said, “I now give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the entire earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. [30] And to all the animals of the earth, and to every bird of the air, and to all the creatures that move on the ground—everything that has living breath in it—I give every green plant for food.” It was so.

[31] God saw all that he had made—and it was very good! There was evening, and there was morning, the sixth day.

[2:1] The heavens and the earth were completed with everything that was in them. [2] By the seventh day God finished the work that he had been doing, and he ceased on the seventh day all the work that he had been doing. [3] God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it he ceased all the work that he had been doing in creation. (NET)

Question 8

2 Peter 3:10-13

[10] But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; when it comes, the heavens will disappear with a horrific noise, and the celestial bodies will melt away in a blaze, and the earth and every deed done on it will be laid bare. [11] Since all these things are to melt away in this manner, what sort of people must you be, conducting your lives in holiness and godliness, [12] while waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God? Because of this day, the heavens will be burned up and dissolve, and the celestial bodies will melt away in a blaze! [13] But, according to his promise, we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth, in which righteousness truly resides. (NET)

Revelation 20:11-21:1

[20:11] Then I saw a large white throne and the one who was seated on it; the earth and the heaven fled from his presence, and no place was found for them. [12] And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne. Then books were opened, and another book was opened—the book of life. So the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to their deeds. [13] The sea gave up the dead that were in it, and Death and Hades gave up the dead that were in them, and each one was judged according to his deeds. [14] Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death—the lake of fire. [15] If anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, that person was thrown into the lake of fire.

[21:1] Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had ceased to exist, and the sea existed no more. (NET)

Fourth Day

Read Romans 8:23-25

Romans 8:23-25

[23] Not only this, but we ourselves also, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we eagerly await our adoption, the redemption of our bodies. [24] For in hope we were saved. Now hope that is seen is not hope, because who hopes for what he sees? [25] But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with endurance. (NET)

Question 11

2 Corinthians 4:16-18

[16] Therefore we do not despair, but even if our physical body is wearing away, our inner person is being renewed day by day. [17] For our momentary, light suffering is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison [18] because we are not looking at what can be seen but at what cannot be seen. For what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal. (NET)

James 1:2-4

[2] My brothers and sisters, consider it nothing but joy when you fall into all sorts of trials, [3] because you know that the testing of your faith produces endurance. [4] And let endurance have its perfect effect, so that you will be perfect and complete, not deficient in anything. (NET)

1 Peter 1:6-7

[6] This brings you great joy, although you may have to suffer for a short time in various trials. [7] Such trials show the proven character of your faith, which is much more valuable than gold—gold that is tested by fire, even though it is passing away—and will bring praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed. (NET)

Revelation 21:1-5

[1] Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and earth had ceased to exist, and the sea existed no more. [2] And I saw the holy city—the new Jerusalem—descending out of heaven from God, made ready like a bride adorned for her husband. [3] And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying: “Look! The residence of God is among human beings. He will live among them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them. [4] He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not exist any more—or mourning, or crying, or pain, for the former things have ceased to exist.”

[5] And the one seated on the throne said: “Look! I am making all things new!” Then he said to me, “Write it down, because these words are reliable and true.” (NET)

Fifth Day

Read Romans 8:26-27

Romans 8:26-27

[26] In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness, for we do not know how we should pray, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with inexpressible groanings. [27] And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes on behalf of the saints according to God’s will. (NET)

Question 13b

Luke 12:11-12

[11] But when they bring you before the synagogues, the rulers, and the authorities, do not worry about how you should make your defense or what you should say, [12] for the Holy Spirit will teach you at that moment what you must say.” (NET)

Acts 1:8

[8] But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the farthest parts of the earth.” (NET)

Acts 16:6-10

[6] They went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been prevented by the Holy Spirit from speaking the message in the province of Asia. [7] When they came to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to do this, [8] so they passed through Mysia and went down to Troas. [9] A vision appeared to Paul during the night: A Macedonian man was standing there urging him, “Come over to Macedonia and help us!” [10] After Paul saw the vision, we attempted immediately to go over to Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them. (NET)

Acts 20:22

[22] And now, compelled by the Spirit, I am going to Jerusalem without knowing what will happen to me there, (NET)

Ephesians 4:3-4

[3] making every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. [4] There is one body and one Spirit, just as you too were called to the one hope of your calling, (NET)

Ephesians 6:17

[17] And take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit (which is the word of God). (NET)

1 Corinthians 2:12

[12] Now we have not received the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, so that we may know the things that are freely given to us by God. (NET)

Sixth Day

Review Romans 8:18-27

Romans 8:18-27

[18] For I consider that our present sufferings cannot even be compared to the coming glory that will be revealed to us.

(NET)
