First Day
Read the Lesson 12 Notes
Second Day
Read Romans 8:1-4
Romans 8:1-4
[1] There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. [2] For the law of the life-giving Spirit in Christ Jesus has set you free from the law of sin and death. [3] For God achieved what the law could not do because it was weakened through the flesh. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and concerning sin, he condemned sin in the flesh,
[4] so that the righteous requirement of the law may be fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (NET)
Question 4a
John 14:15-21
[15] “If you love me, you will obey my commandments. [16] Then I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate to be with you forever— [17] the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot accept because it does not see him or know him. But you know him because he resides with you and will be in you.
[18] “I will not abandon you as orphans, I will come to you. [19] In a little while the world will not see me any longer, but you will see me; because I live, you will live too. [20] You will know at that time that I am in my Father and you are in me and I am in you. [21] The person who has my commandments and obeys them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and will reveal myself to him.” (NET)
John 16:8-15
[8] And when he comes, he will prove the world wrong concerning sin and righteousness and judgment— [9] concerning sin because they do not believe in me; [10] concerning righteousness because I am going to the Father and you will see me no longer; [11] and concerning judgment because the ruler of this world has been condemned.
[12] “I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. [13] But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. For he will not speak on his own authority, but will speak whatever he hears and will tell you what is to come. [14] He will glorify me because he will receive from me what is mine and will tell it to you. [15] Everything that the Father has is mine; that is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what is mine and will tell it to you. (NET)
Third Day
Read Romans 8:5-11
Romans 8:5-11
[5] For those who live according to the flesh have their outlook shaped by the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit have their outlook shaped by the things of the Spirit. [6] For the outlook of the flesh is death, but the outlook of the Spirit is life and peace, [7] because the outlook of the flesh is hostile to God, for it does not submit to the law of God, nor is it able to do so. [8] Those who are in the flesh cannot please God. [9] You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God lives in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, this person does not belong to him. [10] But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is your life because of righteousness. [11] Moreover if the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead lives in you, the one who raised Christ from the dead will also make your mortal bodies alive through his Spirit who lives in you. (NET)
Question 7a
Galatians 5:22-23
[22] But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, [23] gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (NET)
Colossians 3:1-4
[1] Therefore, if you have been raised with Christ, keep seeking the things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. [2] Keep thinking about things above, not things on the earth, [3] for you have died and your life is hidden with Christ in God. [4] When Christ (who is your life) appears, then you too will be revealed in glory with him. (NET)
Fourth Day
Read Romans 8:12-13
Romans 8:12-13
[12] So then, brothers and sisters, we are under obligation, not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh [13] (for if you live according to the flesh, you will die), but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. (NET)
Question 10a
2 Corinthians 7:1
[1] Therefore, since we have these promises, dear friends, let us cleanse ourselves from everything that could defile the body and the spirit, and thus accomplish holiness out of reverence for God. (NET)
Philippians 3:10-14
[10] My aim is to know him, to experience the power of his resurrection, to share in his sufferings, and to be like him in his death, [11] and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead.
[12] Not that I have already attained this—that is, I have not already been perfected—but I strive to lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus also laid hold of me. [13] Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself to have attained this. Instead I am single-minded: Forgetting the things that are behind and reaching out for the things that are ahead, [14] with this goal in mind, I strive toward the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. (NET)
Question 10b
Romans 6:11-14
[11] So you too consider yourselves dead to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus.
[12] Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its desires, [13] and do not present your members to sin as instruments to be used for unrighteousness, but present yourselves to God as those who are alive from the dead and your members to God as instruments to be used for righteousness. [14] For sin will have no mastery over you, because you are not under law but under grace. (NET)
Galatians 5:13-21
[13] For you were called to freedom, brothers and sisters; only do not use your freedom as an opportunity to indulge your flesh, but through love serve one another. [14] For the whole law can be summed up in a single commandment, namely, “You must love your neighbor as yourself.” [15] However, if you continually bite and devour one another, beware that you are not consumed by one another. [16] But I say, live by the Spirit and you will not carry out the desires of the flesh. [17] For the flesh has desires that are opposed to the Spirit, and the Spirit has desires that are opposed to the flesh, for these are in opposition to each other, so that you cannot do what you want. [18] But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. [19] Now the works of the flesh are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity, depravity, [20] idolatry, sorcery, hostilities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish rivalries, dissensions, factions, [21] envying, murder, drunkenness, carousing, and similar things. I am warning you, as I had warned you before: Those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God! (NET)
Colossians 3:5-17
[5] So put to death whatever in your nature belongs to the earth: sexual immorality, impurity, shameful passion, evil desire, and greed which is idolatry. [6] Because of these things the wrath of God is coming on the sons of disobedience. [7] You also lived your lives in this way at one time, when you used to live among them. [8] But now, put off all such things as anger, rage, malice, slander, abusive language from your mouth. [9] Do not lie to one another since you have put off the old man with its practices [10] and have been clothed with the new man that is being renewed in knowledge according to the image of the one who created it. [11] Here there is neither Greek nor Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave or free, but Christ is all and in all.
[12] Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with a heart of mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience, [13] bearing with one another and forgiving one another, if someone happens to have a complaint against anyone else. Just as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also forgive others. [14] And to all these virtues add love, which is the perfect bond. [15] Let the peace of Christ be in control in your heart (for you were in fact called as one body to this peace), and be thankful. [16] Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and exhorting one another with all wisdom, singing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, all with grace in your hearts to God. [17] And whatever you do in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. (NET)
Fifth Day
Read Romans 8:14-17
Romans 8:14-17
[14] For all who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. [15] For you did not receive the spirit of slavery leading again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption, by whom we cry, “Abba, Father.” [16] The Spirit himself bears witness to our spirit that we are God’s children. [17] And if children, then heirs (namely, heirs of God and also fellow heirs with Christ)—if indeed we suffer with him so we may also be glorified with him. (NET)
Sixth Day
Review Romans 8:1-17
Romans 8:1-17
